Cut Paper Assemblages are culled from entirely recycled paper products; brochures, flyers, old photos, cards, labels, posters... anything that catches my eye. Source material, also from my own painting experiments, is selected based on color, line and texture. I cut the material into various sized squares, from three inches large to 1/4 of an inch small. Next, I piece squares together recognizing the relationships between artistic fundamentals and graphic design. I struggle with similar and competing elements until a harmonious resolution is achieved. The outcome is a beautifully composed design which can stand alone, but will ultimately become a small facet of a much larger piece. Through celebrations of colors, lines and texture I commemorate important people, places, things and events. This type of commemorative art represents endless possibilities for potential commissions.
